Why say "NO" to CRITERIA for UK Immigration Amnesty - as campaigned by Strangers into citizens/ West London Citizens.

Strangers into Citizens/West London Citizens Group are campaigning for amnesty for those who have been refused the right to stay in the country.
www.westlondoncitizens.org.uk

They are keeping a very low profile about it and holding meetings with Labour MPs which are not well advertised so opposition parties and those working and paying tax, would not attend! I attended one such meeting on 9 March 2007 at a Catholic Church. No advertisement. Just one advert in the library to state that the MP was coming at their premises; no reason given!!! You know why???

I am in agreement with the amnesty but not with their criteria as you will read below, and why.

This is their criteria:
Strangers into Citizens calls for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people who have been living in the UK for more than four years

  • Under the proposal individuals would enter a two year pathway to citizenship
  • and would need to provide employer references
  • as well as demonstrate their good standing in the community.
  • They would need to speak good English.

MY COMMENTS: Two years is TOO SHORT!!! Why make it so easy for illegal immigrants in comparison to those who are legally here on a work permit. They have to work for FOUR years before they are granted a resident status and be counted as a "citizen"!!!

This is what should be the criteria for legalisation of illegal immigrants stay:

  • those who can fill up specialist job vacuum in the UK
  • can speak and write English
  • employer willing to appoint that person
  • medical proof of fitness to work, both mentally and physically
  • wide publicity so all four corners of the UK will hear of it (not just the holy religious corners!)
  • four years of work (in line with the application for those who have to apply for a work permit)
  • the applicant must pay for the GP and NHS treatment during this four year working period (as those on work permits have to do. Yes, I have seen an Australian pay £35 to see a doctor at my GP surgery. They are of course here on a work permit and paying taxes. Then, make it free for all!). After four years -> resident status -> Free NHS.
  • Attach a CLAUSE: No entitlement to state benefits or social housing (as it is with those on a work permit), unless they face an unforeseen circumstance eg accident or illness (but pregnancy EXCLUDED - pay for your own child's welfare from birth till adult, and your own, unless face an unforeseen circumstance).

Imported Husbands: The next problem will be that once a resident status is granted, some female immigrants end up importing husbands who do not speak English! And both end up living on welfare, forever!

Why not stop at grassroot level? Stop this by only allowing spouses (male or female) who speak English (as Netherlands is doing) and have a skill that will be able to get them employment in the UK straight away.

I am finding this very common among the refugees and asylum seekers from the Horn of Africa who are living in the UK free of charge on welfare, including sickness benefit!!! I've never seen them even do a cleaning job or stack shelves in a supermarket!!! Already broadcasted by BBC on how the Somalians are affected mentally because of the "weed" (chaat) they chew which is costing enormous amount for the NHS. And they have not even contributed into the taxpayers purse. How ridiculous! Who is going to pay for all these mouths, plus their childrens' too??? If they went to the USA they would have to work there, or even in their own country so why not in the UK? UK has become too lenient!!! A BIG re-think is needed by this govt. WAKE UP!

I have always been a Labour supporter.......but the opening of the borders for anyone, will make people like me re-think now.

I am a legal immigrant myself.
